BrokeBook blues
I purchased a new MacBook. Yes, I’m a yuppy… An Apple Geek… A Designer… And yes I did pay for it hansomely. I thought it would be a great idea to buy it through an Apple reseller, namely “Streetwise” as they were cheaper and I figured it would probably ship to me quicker as they would no doubt have some in stock (being Apple’s most popular model).
In my infinate wisdom I decided that an extra 20Gig hard-drive space would come in handy and I definitely couldn’t live without less that 2 Gig of RAM… So, I ordered the thing, unaware that the 100Gig hard-drive meant that it had to built in Singapore and then shipped to me via Melbourne, resulting in a 4 week wait between purchase and delivery. :(
As any Apple fan knows, unwrapping one of these beautifully packaged products makes you quickly forget lifes worries… It was all going great, until about a week ago when my screen started strobing like a 70’s disco.
My guess is that I have a loose connection between the Graphics processor and the screen itself or possibly something more drastic like a power issue. In any case, it’s annoying and it means that I’m going to have to send this beautiful machine back to whence it came (one of the reasons I have just posted two blog entries consecutively).
I did a quick Google search and couldn’t really find anyone complaining about this problem, so I’m assuming I just happened to be the unlucky 1 millionth customer.
Aside from the screen-trouble the purchase was a very good one. I can fully 700% vouch for these little beauty’s… Endless amounts of processing power and genuinely a joy to use. If you’re purchasing one and you want to take it to work everyday I highly suggest getting an extra power-adapter (as I did). Though, if you’re into games, forget about the MacBook, get a MacBook Pro. When I read that from other people I thought they were just saying it wouldn’t play the higher-end graphics intensive games… But, seriously games are NOT a MacBook’s friend.
Meh, you win some, you lose a lot… ;-)
