Adobe Roadshow

3rd Nov 2006

About three weeks ago, an email landed in my inbox from Adobe. It was an invitation to attend their Roadshow that was due to land in Brisbane on the 31st of October.

Lucky for me, my Project Manager also received the email and thought that it would be a great opportunity for me to upskill. So, on Tuesday, Macbook in hand and ready to face a fun day fully payed away from work; I bussed into town with Mike (my little brother) to take on the Adobe experience. :P

It was a lot less “salesyâ€? than I had anticipated. Each session was jam-packed with information, tips & tricks on using the latest versions of software and I soon realised that even though I use a lot Adobe’s products on a day to day basis, I’m really not USING them to their full potential.

Acrobat alone, has some incredible capability that I had NO idea was even there and the new interface of version 8 is really impressive. You can really see how the “Task-basedâ€? menu style that Microsoft brought to the forefront (IE7 & Media Player 11) is starting to infiltrate software across the board. But, by far my favourite session was the Creative Suite Tips & Tricks; There’s nothing more satisfying than watching a designer letting loose with a tool he/she knows all too well. Illustrator is certainly my new best friend. I have never really had any formal introduction to its’ capability, so after seeing it being used properly I have a lot of respect for this powerful piece of software. Oh and Dreamweaver still sucks big-time. The presenters did try to push standards alot, but when you look at what they were producing, it really was a farce.

All in all, the whole day was really great, though I did regret not bringing it to the attention of about a dozen people I know would have really benefitted by attending. Meh, what do ya do?
