A nite with Dashy and Skeppers
James Hamlin, a good friend of mine and musical comrade called me out of the blue yesterday, no more than 4 months since AGMF 06 (the last time we spoke). What was initially a pleasant surprise soon became a certified blessing with news that he had a ticket to see Dashboard Confessional & Antiskeptc with MY name on it!
So, last night after work I wondered my way over to the “Tivoliâ€? which is only about 2 kilometers away from our office, to meet up with James. Unfortunately, James was at least 30 mins away, which meant I enjoyed the rockin sounds of Antiskeptic from OUTSIDE the venue… :P
I could roughly make out what sounded like new songs from the boys and no doubt they got the crowd going, as they usually do. Once James arrived, we waited yet again for Ben and Miles who had James’ ticket and who we later discovered had blown a tyre on the way down (poor guys, that would totally suck). This meant that we had some time on our hands to catch up and talk life.
Dashboard totally rocked out, seriously very cool stage presence and sound - much better than I expected. However, Chris (the lead singer) seemed pretty intent on talking about his sex-life (or lack thereof) and it really did get to me very quickly. I ended up leaving 30 mins before their set ended simply out of frustration, from a pure “music perspective I definitely enjoyed seeing them live though.
On the way out I grabbed Antiskeptic’s new EP/DVD “Monuments; So far, I can say that the first 2 songs are by far the stand out tunes. I am a little disappointed that there is only 4 tracks total, but it was a worthwhile purchase as the DVD has plenty of quality footage on it and will no doubt keep me entertained for the next few weeks (until Mute Math’s album arrives).

Yeah the tivoli is a nice little venue - I saw Yellowcard there earlier in the year. My big recommendation is to GET THERE EARLY!!! You really need to get a good spot in the crowd, cause up the back sucks hard…
AVA??? YOU SUCK!!! Where’s my ticket? :P
